Qualifying Donations

CoMoGives remains an online only giving campaign; that is, with a few exceptions outlined below. Online gifts (credit card, debit card, ACH, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo) processed through www.comogives.com between 12:00:01 am CST 12/2/2024 and 11:59:59 pm CST 12/31/2024 will count towards the CoMoGives 2024 campaign.

The CoMoGives campaign is run by the Community Foundation of Central Missouri (CFCM) using Mightycause as the software platform. CFCM takes nothing from the donations; they are disbursed in full to the recipient organizations, minus fees if the donor declines to pay them.

We recognize the desire for donors to give from their IRAs or other funds. While these donations cannot be processed through the Mightycause platform, CFCM will assist with incorporating these gifts into the desired organization's CoMoGives totals as long as the gift meets the specific requirements outlined below:

  • We accept checks from IRAs (for QCDs or RMDs). CFCM is not permitted by IRS code to split RMD or other transfer gifts designated to multiple organizations; to give to multiple organizations the donor must send one check per recipient organization. Such checks must meet a minimum of $500 per recipient organization. We do not have the staff to deal with small checks.
  • We also accept checks from Donor Advised Funds IF such fund was established through CFCM. For these gifts, the donor may submit one check to cover multiple donations. The donor must provide CFCM with a list showing the recipient organizations and how much is allocated for each.
  • We allow participating organizations to secure funding to be utilized for Matching Grants to incentivize donors to give to their organization. Funds that are intended to sponsor a Matching Grant do not need to be sent to the CFCM. Matching Grant sponsors have the option to fulfill their commitment online via a donation made directly to the organization's CoMoGives page, or via a method of their choosing outside of the CoMoGives platform. In either case, proof of the source and documented purpose for the funds will be required if the organization wins a Grand Prize or Challenge Grant during CoMoGives.
  • We DO NOT accept cash.

How to submit a qualifying check to the CFCM:

  • Remember how slow the mail can be in December; try to get checks to us as early as possible. You are welcome to drop them off in person.
  • Please notify both esappington@cfcmfoundation.org and adminassist@cfcmfoundation.org via email of checks we should be expecting, with as much detail as you can give (amount, purpose, and especially your org name).
  • Each such check should be made payable to Community Foundation of Central Missouri, with the purpose in the memo line (e.g., “DAF donation for [org name]-CoMoGives 2024, etc.) It’s critical that we know what org the check is for.
  • Checks should be mailed to Community Foundation of Central Missouri, 2635 S. Providence Rd #104, Columbia, MO 65203.

Finally, accepted check donations will be manually made to show on the recipient organization’s leaderboard within two working days of receipt of the check, and the full amount of the check(s) will be given to the recipient org.

  • Gifts made online via CoMoGives.com from December 1, 2024 at 12am CT through December 31, 2024 at 11:59:59pm CT will count towards the Grand Prizes and Matching Grants, unless otherwise noted.
  • Offline gifts will not count towards any prizes or leaderboards, unless submitted in the form of a check to the Community Foundation of Central Missouri team in advance.
  • Matching Grants created on the organization / fundraiser page will count towards Grand Prizes and Challenge Grants. Please note -- If your organization is selected as the winner for a Grand Prize or Challenge Grant, your CoMoGives totals will be subject to audit. You will be required to provide proof of funding for your Matching Grants in order to officially claim that prize. This includes documented proof that the Matching Grant sponsor intended for their donation to be utilized as a Matching Grant for CoMoGives, the gift amount, and proof of receipt of funds.
  • Awarded prizes are subject to audit and will be finalized up to seven business days following the close of CoMoGives.
  • Grand Prizes or Challenge Grants may be revoked or withheld if donations or matches can’t be validated, including falsifying donor email addresses or matches.
  • In the event of ties, unique donor count will be used to determine winner.
  • The CoMoGives Grand Prize & Matching Grant pool is provided by the Community Foundation of Central Missouri as a means to incentivize and reward organization participation in the fundraising challenge. In an effort to provide an equitable Grand Prize & Matching Grant pool, there are restrictions on how many prizes can be won by an individual organization.
  • The top two organizations who win a Grand Prize will be ineligible to win any additional Challenge Grants (Golden Tickets & Power Hours do not apply to this restriction).
  • Organizations are limited to winning one Challenge Grant (Golden Tickets & Power Hours do not apply to this restriction).
  • Organizations are limited to winning one Golden Ticket and one Power Hour during the CoMoGives campaign.
