Camp Takimina

Who Are We?

Camp Takimina is a  501 © 3 nonprofit organization that provides a natural forest space of over 30 acres for camping, hiking, community meet-ups, educational activities, field trips, and private events. With over 60 years in existence, we strive to take care of our beautiful forest and wildlife and also provide a safe haven for all Boone County, Missouri locals and visitors alike. We welcome hundreds of children and families throughout the year, and your support will help us keep our campground alive!

Let's Go Back in Time

Camp Takimina began in 1960 as part of the Camp Fire organization. When the local council was dissolved in 2015, Friends of Takimina formed a 501 © 3 to manage and preserve the land as a resource to the community. Through partnerships with Jefferson City YMCA (Camp Mudd) and City Garden School, as well as local scout troops, churches, and former campers, we are fulfilling our commitment. The mission of Friends of Takimina is to teach and share the love of the outdoors through conservation, education, skill building, and self-reliance with our community.  Friends of Takimina is all volunteer. Our governing body is made up of a board of 7 long term supporters and numerous skilled advisors -- and they are all 100% volunteers.
