WHAT WE DO Since established and dedicated May 18, 2002, the Foundation has continuously recognized and honored the sacrificial service of Missouri Firefighters who have died in the line of duty protecting their communities.
Additionally, we recognize those who have faithfully served their citizens and passed on. We support a funeral response team that assists families and departments in honoring fallen firefighters.
We are focused on collecting, preserving and displaying Missouri Fire Service History with the current construction of a Fire Service History and Education Center on the same site of the memorial.
WHY WE SERVE We provide hope and a promise to the families of a Fallen Firefighter, that their loved one did not die only to be forgotten for their service. Their name is lifted up and honored in a place forever declared as hallowed ground and forever keeping the memory of those which gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting of others. In this group the first name of record dates back to 1839.
The memorial also gives testament for a lifetime of service for those who have passed outside the line of duty, so they are not forgotten for their commitment and service to community.
We are providing a focus driven commitment in capturing, preserving, presenting and educating current and future generations in Fire Service History with a goal to excite the many senses to learn and consider careers in the Missouri fire service
OUR VOLUNTEERS The Foundation is 100% volunteer. The 15-member Board is responsible for managing and coordinating all operations. This includes a Funeral Response team of over 50 volunteers which assist Missouri families and departments with firefighter funeral honors. There are also dozens of volunteers which assist with the annual Candlelight and Sunday morning services that recognize firefighters who have passed from the following year. It will also require dozens of dedicated volunteers for the Fire Service History and Education Center once it is completed and becomes fully operational.
OUR ASK IN FINANCAL SUPPORT There are 4 key areas in what we do as a Foundation that are much like the 4 legs of a chair which supports a much broader load. They are assuring that honors to fallen firefighters are provided each year in the annual services. Maintaining the hallowed grounds of the memorial in memory of all firefighters throughout the year. Supporting the Funeral Response Team which works with families of fallen firefighters. Completing the interior construction of the fire service history and education center for future generations.
Firefighters both career and volunteer made a commitment to protect their respective communities in all manner of emergencies. Without your support these 4 areas may not be fully achieved or even leave families uncertain in their firefighter being forgotten.
WHAT THAT SUPPORT WOULD DO In the course of a year, we have many expenses that add up to maintain the memorial, building costs to finish the museum, and most importantly the cost in providing annual honors to those families who have lost a loved one.
The expenses range from the 3-flags that we fly continuously, or a replica statue given to the family members. Maintenance of the memorial is ongoing every day ranging from repairs to our brick and stamped concrete walkways to finalization of our museum which require numerous items to finish the inside so that it can be opened to the public. Any donation, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and will be used in full to preserve this memorial and allied operations.
This support just for our annual memorial services involving wreaths, flags, candles, printed programs, ribbons, chair rental, video recording and live streaming services. Funding improves brick, wall and statue maintenance plus additional infrastructure upgrades of the memorial and grounds. Continued construction in completing the interior of the future Fire Service History and Education Center.
