Columbia Housing Authority Moving Ahead Program

Our MISSION 

The Moving Ahead Afterschool and Summer Program (MAP) is committed to providing comprehensive, wrap-around support that helps children and families thrive. MAP serves youth in grades K–12 by offering high-quality academic support, positive youth development, and enrichment opportunities that strengthen confidence, resilience, and connection.

MAP provides one-on-one tutoring, homework help, mentoring, and cultural, recreational, and hands-on learning experiences. We also work closely with families to ensure the whole household has access to supportive resources, helping them build stability, overcome barriers, and grow.

During the school year, MAP operates Monday–Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students receive an afternoon snack and dinner, and transportation is provided.
Our no-cost summer camp runs Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., offering breakfast, lunch, a snack, and dinner; Missouri Standards–aligned lessons, and educational field trips such as the Kansas City Science Center, the St. Louis Zoo, and the Magic House.

The Moving Ahead Program provides a trusted, high-quality space for youth in low-income and Section 8 households across Boone County. Our team specializes in trauma-informed care, positive behavior support, and individualized academic assistance. Every day, we meet students where they are, help them overcome barriers, and empower them to discover their strengths.  By connecting children with caring adults, reliable routines, and opportunities to grow, MAP strengthens not just each student, but their entire family.

A gift of $50–$100 directly invests in the success of children in the Moving Ahead Program by helping provide one-on-one tutoring, hands-on enrichment activities, nutritious meals and snacks, educational field trips, and a safe, supportive environment where kids feel seen, valued, and encouraged. Even a small donation creates a powerful ripple effect—strengthening confidence, expanding opportunities, and helping youth in our community build stability and hope for the future.
